Growing Disciples

Growing Disciples is an open resource that promises to grow us as disciples of Jesus Christ. Rather than merely 'knowing about' God, we will be helped to know him personally and relationally. This happens as we build a daily habit of 'slowing down' to intentionally focus ourselves on God, reading the bible and praying.

Praying Scripture back to God.

In the month of September our Growth Exercises invite us to try some more contemplative forms of prayer. We will ‘centre-down’, ‘fill up’, and ‘fill out’ --by praying with others. As a companion exercise, this month our Prayer Focus invites us to pray Scripture back to God.

Jesus' final week 2; Mark 12:12-33

Jesus sometimes uses enacted parables or ‘prophet theatre’ to make a powerful point. This enacted parable calls us to put our faith in God’s absolute power to bring salvation for his people, despite the failed religious structures surrounding his people.

Jesus' final week 1; Mark 11:1-11

Jesus is the Messiah King and praised by the crowd as he approaches Jerusalem in a carefully managed processional. But there is a great anti-climax as he enters the Temple. The welcome and acclaim quickly falls away. Those who ought to have recognised their Messiah most readily are silent, absent or mocking.
